Overview

Gunther Werks is an American boutique automotive manufacturer specializing in the bespoke restoration and 'remastering' of the Porsche 911 (993 generation). By integrating modern aerospace-grade materials and contemporary engineering with a classic air-cooled platform, the company creates ultra-exclusive, high-performance vehicles for the luxury collector market.

History

Gunther Werks was founded in 2017 by Peter Nam, who also established the high-end aftermarket company Vorsteiner. The company debuted its first prototype, the 400R, at the Quail Lodge & Golf Club during Monterey Car Week, positioning itself as a specialist capable of reimagining what a '993 GT3 RS' might have been had Porsche built one in the mid-1990s. The company’s philosophy centers on the Porsche 993, the final generation of the air-cooled 911. Gunther Werks strips donor cars down to the bare chassis, reinforcing the frame and replacing the bodywork with proprietary wide-body carbon fiber panels. This process significantly reduces weight while widening the track for improved handling and performance. Following the success of the initial 400R coupe, the company expanded its lineup with the 993 Speedster Remastered in 2021 and the twin-turbocharged 'Tornado' model in 2022. Each production run is strictly limited to 25 units, ensuring exclusivity and maintaining high resale value among enthusiasts. In recent years, Gunther Werks has continued to push the boundaries of the air-cooled platform through the development of the GWR (Gunther Werks Remastered), which features a 4.0-liter engine producing over 500 horsepower. The company operates out of a specialized facility in Southern California where it manages design, engineering, and final assembly.
