Overview
Alpine Endurance Team is the official factory racing operation of the French sports car manufacturer Alpine, managed in technical partnership with the Signatech racing team. The entity competes in the premier Hypercar class of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), utilizing the Alpine A424 LMDh prototype. The team serves as a high-performance research and development platform for Alpine's electrification strategies and lightweight engineering philosophies.
History
Alpine’s legacy in endurance racing was solidified in the 1960s and 1970s, culminating in an overall victory at the 1978 24 Hours of Le Mans with the A442B. Following a multi-decade hiatus from top-tier sports car racing, the brand was revitalized in 2013 through a strategic partnership with Philippe Sinault's Signatech team. Competing under the name Signatech Alpine, the outfit entered the LMP2 category and quickly became a dominant force, securing European Le Mans Series titles in 2013 and 2014. Between 2015 and 2020, the team transitioned to the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) full-time. During this period, they achieved significant success in the LMP2 class, winning the category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans three times (2016, 2018, 2019) and clinching two WEC LMP2 titles. These years established the technical and operational foundation required for a return to the premier class of sports car racing. In 2021, the team entered the Hypercar category, initially utilizing a 'grandfathered' LMP1 chassis rebadged as the Alpine A480. This served as a transitional phase while the brand developed its own bespoke LMDh (Le Mans Daytona h) prototype. During this bridge period, the team proved competitive against larger factory efforts, securing a historic overall win at the 2022 1000 Miles of Sebring. The 2024 season marked the competitive debut of the Alpine A424, a purpose-built LMDh prototype featuring a 3.4-liter V6 turbocharged engine and a chassis developed by Oreca. Despite early reliability setbacks at Le Mans, the team achieved its first Hypercar podium with the A424 at the 6 Hours of Fuji in 2024. As of early 2026, the team continues to refine the A424 platform while navigating broader strategic reviews within the Renault Group regarding its long-term motorsport commitments.
