Overview

Aston Martin Racing (AMR) is the dedicated motorsport division of the British luxury carmaker, operated in a long-standing partnership with the engineering firm Prodrive. The organization specializes in the design, development, and production of high-performance grand tourer (GT) race cars for professional and customer racing programs globally. It serves as a critical platform for technical innovation, bridging the gap between Aston Martin's road-going production models and elite endurance racing competition.

History

Aston Martin Racing was established in 2004 as a joint venture between Aston Martin Lagonda and David Richards' Prodrive engineering group. The primary mission was to return the iconic British brand to the forefront of international sports car racing, a goal achieved rapidly with the debut of the DBR9. This V12-powered machine secured consecutive GT1 class victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2007 and 2008, re-establishing the marque's prestige in endurance motorsport. Following the success of the DBR9, the program transitioned to the V8-powered Vantage platform, which would become the backbone of the brand's racing efforts for over a decade. Throughout the 2010s, AMR dominated the GTE Pro and GTE Am classes in the FIA World Endurance Championship, claiming multiple world titles and prestigious race wins. The development of the GT3 and GT4 variants of the Vantage allowed the company to expand into the customer racing market, supplying privateer teams in diverse championships such as the British GT, IMSA, and GT World Challenge. In recent years, the scope of the organization has grown to encompass the development of the Valkyrie AMR Pro and the Valkyrie AMR-LMH, marking a return to the top-tier Hypercar class at Le Mans. The 2024 season saw the global introduction of the new generation Vantage GT3 and GT4, reflecting the updated architecture of the latest road cars. Today, AMR continues to operate out of Prodrive's Banbury facility, remaining a key technical pillar for Aston Martin's high-performance engineering strategy.
