Overview
Aston Martin THOR Team (The Heart of Racing Team) is the official factory works motorsport racing entrant representing Aston Martin in top-flight endurance racing. The team fields the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR-LMH race car across the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Hypercar class and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (GTP). Operating in partnership with Aston Martin, the team spearheads the brand's bid for top-class prototype victories at events like the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
History
The Heart of Racing (THOR) was originally founded in 2014 by driver and team principal Ian James alongside businessman Gabe Newell to combine top-tier sports car racing with fundraising for Seattle Children's Hospital and pediatric cardiac programs. Over several seasons in North American sports car competition, THOR established itself as a premier privateer racing outfit, ultimately transitioning to partner closely with Aston Martin Racing. In October 2023, Aston Martin revived its paused Valkyrie Le Mans Hypercar program and announced a multi-year works partnership with The Heart of Racing to manage and run the factory competition entries. The team took on the formal works moniker of Aston Martin THOR Team, handling both the European FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) program and the North American IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTP campaign. Ahead of its racing debut, the team engaged in extensive prototype testing across European and North American circuits throughout 2024. In late 2024 and 2025, the team confirmed its international driver squads, officially entering competition with the numbers #007 and #009 to fight for overall honors at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and across the global endurance racing calendar.
