Overview

Brabham Automotive is a boutique high-performance vehicle manufacturer that produces track-focused and road-legal hypercars. The company focuses on extreme aerodynamic efficiency and power-to-weight ratios, carrying forward the racing legacy of founder Sir Jack Brabham into the modern supercar market.

History

The Brabham name was originally established in 1960 by Sir Jack Brabham and Ron Tauranac as Motor Racing Developments (MRD), which evolved into one of the most successful Formula 1 teams in history. After decades of absence from vehicle manufacturing, the brand was revived in 2018 as Brabham Automotive. This new venture was a partnership between David Brabham (son of Sir Jack) and the Australian investment group Fusion Capital, based in Adelaide, South Australia. The company's debut model, the BT62, was launched in 2018 as a track-only hypercar limited to 70 units to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Sir Jack Brabham’s racing career. The vehicle was engineered to be a pure driver's car, featuring a mid-mounted 5.4-liter V8 engine and producing significant aerodynamic downforce. In the following years, the company expanded the range to include the BT62R (a road-compliant version) and the BT63 GT2, intended for GT2-class competition. Throughout its operation, Brabham Automotive emphasized Australian manufacturing, utilizing a dedicated facility in Adelaide for assembly and testing. The brand successfully returned to racing in the Britcar Endurance Championship and participated in various GT events to showcase the durability and performance of its platforms. In January 2024, it was announced that the collaboration between the Brabham Group (the family-owned brand entity) and Fusion Capital had been terminated. This resulted in the end of the licensing agreement for the Brabham name on vehicles produced by Fusion Capital. As a result, the manufacturing entity transitioned away from the Brabham brand, marking the end of this specific chapter of the marque's automotive production.
