Overview
David Brown Automotive is a British luxury coachbuilder and manufacturer specializing in limited-edition, bespoke vehicles that blend classic 1960s aesthetics with modern engineering. The company focuses on high-end craftsmanship and 're-defining coachbuilding for the 21st century' for a global clientele.
History
Founded in 2013 by British businessman David Brown, the company was established in Coventry with the goal of combining classic automotive style with modern engineering and convenience. The firm's debut model, the Speedback GT, was unveiled in 2014, featuring hand-rolled aluminum bodywork inspired by 1960s grand tourers but built on a modern Jaguar XKR chassis and powertrain. In 2017, the company moved its headquarters and production to a purpose-built facility in Silverstone, the heart of the UK's 'Motorsport Valley.' This move coincided with the launch of the Mini Remastered, a luxury reimagining of the classic Mini that incorporated modern technology, improved soundproofing, and bespoke interior finishes. The company expanded its lineup with performance-oriented variants such as the Speedback Silverstone Edition and the Mini Remastered Oselli Edition, the latter featuring a high-performance engine developed in collaboration with Oselli. In 2023, David Brown Automotive entered the electric vehicle market with the Mini eMastered, an all-electric version of their remastered classic. However, despite its niche market position and high-profile clientele, the company entered administration in November 2024, highlighting the significant financial challenges faced by low-volume, bespoke automotive manufacturers.
