Overview

Frontline Cars is a specialist British automotive manufacturer focused on the bespoke restoration and high-performance re-engineering of classic MG sports cars. Based in the historic home of MG, the company is a leading figure in the 'restomod' industry, delivering vehicles that combine iconic 1960s aesthetics with modern OEM-grade engineering and performance.

History

Frontline Cars was founded in 1991 by Tim Fenna as Frontline Developments. The company's origins began when Fenna, a competitive racer, sought to resolve the mechanical weaknesses of his own MG vehicles, specifically developing a Toyota-derived five-speed gearbox conversion that became an industry standard for classic MG owners. Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, the firm expanded from a parts and suspension specialist into a comprehensive vehicle restorer, gaining a reputation for engineering excellence and 'OEM+' build quality. In 2010, the company moved its operations to Abingdon, Oxfordshire, taking over a facility previously used by the Benetton Formula 1 team. This move marked a shift toward full vehicle production, culminating in the 2012 launch of the LE50, a limited-run MGB GT powered by a modern 2.0L Mazda engine. The LE50 was followed by the Abingdon Edition roadster, which utilized a 2.5L engine and gained widespread acclaim, including praise from major automotive media like Top Gear, for its ability to match the dynamics of modern sports cars. In 2023, the company rebranded as Frontline Cars to coincide with its entry into the high-performance V8 and electric vehicle markets. This era saw the introduction of the LE60, the brand's most powerful model to date featuring a 4.8L Rover-derived V8, and the BEE (Battery Electric Edition), which maintains a traditional manual gearbox to preserve driver engagement in an electrified platform. Today, Frontline continues to operate as a low-volume manufacturer, producing highly personalized commissions for a global clientele.
