Overview

Genesis Magma Racing is the high-performance motorsport and engineering division of Genesis, the luxury vehicle brand of Hyundai Motor Group. The division focuses on competing in top-tier endurance racing while developing the 'Magma' high-performance road car sub-brand to rival European luxury performance marques.

History

Genesis was established as a standalone luxury brand by Hyundai Motor Group in 2015, but its high-performance evolution began in earnest in early 2024. In March 2024, the brand introduced the 'Magma' sub-brand at Genesis House New York, showcasing performance-oriented concepts like the GV60 Magma and the G80 Magma Special, signaling an intent to produce a performance variant for every model in its lineup. In September 2024, Genesis officially announced its entry into the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the IMSA SportsCar Championship using a Le Mans Daytona h (LMDh) prototype. This racing initiative, branded as Genesis Magma Racing, was formally launched at a premiere event in Dubai in December 2024, where the GMR-001 Hypercar was first unveiled to the public. To bridge the gap to its 2026 debut, the team entered a partnership with French racing team IDEC Sport for the 2025 European Le Mans Series (ELMS) in the LMP2 category. This partnership served as a competitive training ground, allowing the team to secure its first class victory at the 4 Hours of Barcelona in April 2025 and establish its 'Trajectory' driver development program. Currently, Genesis Magma Racing is operating out of a multi-national structure with facilities in France and Germany. The division is finalizing the technical development of the GMR-001, powered by a bespoke 3.2-liter twin-turbo V8, ahead of its full-season Hypercar entry in 2026 and its planned expansion into the North American IMSA series in 2027.
