Overview

Haval is a specialized automotive brand owned by Great Wall Motor (GWM) that focuses exclusively on the production of SUVs and crossovers. As a dominant player in the Chinese market, it has consistently ranked as the top-selling SUV brand in China for over a decade while expanding its footprint into international markets like Russia, Australia, and South Africa.

History

Haval originated as a successful SUV product line under Great Wall Motor (GWM), which was founded in 1984. The "Haval" name gained prominence in the early 2000s with models like the Haval H3 and H5, which helped GWM establish a foothold in the burgeoning SUV segment in China. In March 2013, GWM officially spun off Haval as an independent brand to focus specifically on the global SUV market. This strategic move allowed the brand to develop a distinct identity, logo, and specialized R&D focus, aiming to become a world-class SUV expert. Following its independence, Haval experienced rapid growth, driven by the massive success of the H6 model, which became one of the best-selling SUVs globally. The brand expanded its lineup to include a wide range of vehicles, from compact urban crossovers to rugged off-roaders, and pioneered the use of hybrid and intelligent driving technologies within the GWM ecosystem. In 2019, Haval reached a significant milestone by opening its first full-process overseas manufacturing plant in Tula, Russia, marking a major step in its globalization strategy. In recent years, Haval has focused on electrification and intelligent technology. The brand is currently transitioning its portfolio toward "New Energy" vehicles, integrating GWM's Hi4 hybrid technology and intelligent cockpit systems. By leveraging GWM's global R&D network, Haval continues to refine its product offerings to compete in the evolving global automotive landscape, maintaining its position as a core pillar of the Great Wall Motor group.
