Overview

ICON 4x4 is a Los Angeles-based bespoke vehicle manufacturer specializing in high-end, hand-built restomods of classic utility vehicles. The company focuses on blending vintage aesthetics with modern performance engineering, catering to a luxury market of enthusiasts seeking functional, industrial-grade automotive art.

History

ICON 4x4 was founded in 1996 by designer Jonathan Ward. The company's origins are deeply rooted in the restoration and reinterpretation of classic off-road vehicles, initially gaining prominence through its work on Toyota Land Cruisers. This expertise led to a collaboration with Toyota to build prototypes for the 2007 FJ Cruiser, which ultimately inspired Ward to launch the ICON brand to build vehicles 'his way.' Since its inception, ICON has expanded its portfolio beyond the FJ series to include the ICON BR (based on the 1966-1975 Ford Bronco) and the ICON TR (based on the 1947-1953 Chevy Pickup). The company has established a reputation for extreme attention to detail, utilizing CAD design and high-quality materials while maintaining a hand-built assembly process in Southern California. Today, the company operates as a boutique manufacturer, offering standardized production models alongside highly exclusive, one-off projects such as their 'Derelict' and 'Reformer' series. ICON remains a privately held, independent entity that emphasizes American manufacturing and the use of robust, world-class components to ensure longevity and performance in harsh environments.
