Overview

Mills Extreme Vehicles (MEV) is a British specialist kit car designer and manufacturer best known for lightweight exoskeletal sports cars. The company focuses on offering accessible, lightweight, and modern performance alternatives to traditional Lotus Seven-style kit cars. Its core market position centers around tubular spaceframe conversion kits that repurpose widespread, cost-effective donor vehicles.

History

Mills Extreme Vehicles was established in 2003 by automotive and composite designer Stuart Mills in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, England. Mills leveraged decades of prior experience in bespoke vehicle fabrication, fiberglass engineering in the marine sector, and microlight aircraft design to create innovative and affordable lightweight vehicle architectures, beginning with prototypes and experimental platforms like tilting trikes and the Trek 4x4. The company achieved breakthrough commercial recognition with the mid-engined MEV Rocket and later revolutionized the kit car market with the launch of the MEV Exocet. Designed around donor components from the Mazda MX-5 (Miata), the Exocet offered an exoskeleton spaceframe chassis that dramatically reduced assembly complexity and cost compared to older multi-donor kit platforms, sparking a dedicated spec racing series regulated by the 750 Motor Club and widespread international licensing. In 2019, ownership and operational management of Mills Extreme Vehicles transitioned to Stewart and Sylvia Mutch, long-time Exocet builders and racers. Under their leadership, operations consolidated in Staunton, Gloucestershire, continuing production of the flagship Exocet and supporting an active global enthusiast network through direct sales and international distribution partnerships.
