Overview
The Nissan Formula E Team is the factory racing division of Nissan Motor Corporation competing in the FIA Formula E World Championship. The team serves as a high-performance technical laboratory for the development of electric powertrains and software management systems intended for future Nissan consumer electric vehicles.
History
Nissan joined the FIA Formula E World Championship in 2018, making its debut in Season 5 by taking over the entry previously held by its alliance partner, Renault. This transition was a strategic move to promote the Nissan LEAF and the brand's 'Intelligent Mobility' vision through a global racing platform. Initially, the operation functioned as a partnership with the French racing outfit e.dams. In April 2022, Nissan announced the complete acquisition of the e.dams team, transitioning the operation into a full factory-owned 'works' team. This move coincided with the preparation for the Gen3 era of the championship and involved relocating the team's technical headquarters to a state-of-the-art facility in Viry-Châtillon, France. Under full factory ownership, the team has expanded its role to become a powertrain supplier for other competitors, including the McLaren Formula E Team, while committing to the series through the upcoming Gen4 regulations starting in 2026.
