Overview

Paul Stephens (operating its coachbuilding and bespoke vehicle line under PS AutoArt) is a specialist British automotive manufacturer and restorer renowned for high-performance restomods of air-cooled Porsche 911s. Founded by Paul Stephens, the company combines classic 1970s and 1980s 911 design aesthetics with modern mechanical upgrades, bespoke coachbuilding, and lightweight engineering. The firm holds a distinguished position in the bespoke restomod market as one of the earliest UK pioneers in backdated and re-engineered 911 builds.

History

Paul Stephens developed a deep passion for air-cooled Porsches early in life, entering the specialist automotive sector as an independent dealer and technician before formally incorporating Paul Stephens Limited in the United Kingdom in 2002. Operating from facilities in Essex, the business initially established itself in classic Porsche sales, maintenance, historic servicing, and total concourse restoration. Recognizing a burgeoning demand for vintage aesthetics matched with modern reliability and road manners, Stephens launched the 'PS AutoArt' program in the early-to-mid 2000s, predating many contemporary global restomod outfits. Under this sub-brand, the company engineered retro-styled, backdated sports cars using donor Porsche 964 and G-series chassis, incorporating seam-welded structures, blueprinted air-cooled flat-six engines, and bespoke cabin materials. Over the subsequent decades, Paul Stephens expanded its product portfolio with celebrated limited commissions such as the Clubsport series, the official Le Mans Classic Clubsport edition unveiled in 2018, and the high-performance AutoArt 993R revealed in 2022. Today, Paul Stephens continues to operate out of Halstead, Essex, as an independent automotive restomodder, bespoke vehicle builder, and specialist air-cooled Porsche curator.
