Overview

Red Bull Advanced Technologies is the high-performance engineering division of the Red Bull Racing Group, specializing in the application of Formula One-derived technology to cross-industry projects. The company focuses on ultra-low volume hypercars, aerospace engineering, and elite marine applications, positioning itself as a premier boutique manufacturer of peak-performance vehicles.

History

Red Bull Advanced Technologies (RBAT) was established in 2014 in Milton Keynes, UK, to leverage the immense technical expertise and rapid-prototyping capabilities of the Red Bull Racing Formula One team for external commercial use. Initially led by Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey, the firm was designed to bypass F1's restrictive cost caps and regulations, allowing engineers to explore diverse projects ranging from hydrogen-powered racing cars to the IndyCar 'Aeroscreen' safety system. The company's first major automotive milestone was the co-development of the Aston Martin Valkyrie. RBAT handled the aerodynamic and structural design of the car, effectively miniaturizing F1 packaging into a road-legal format. This partnership established RBAT as a serious contender in the hypercar market, capable of delivering performance levels previously unseen in production vehicles. Following the Valkyrie, RBAT announced its first solo vehicle project, the RB17. Announced in 2022, the RB17 is a two-seat track-only hypercar that incorporates the full breadth of Red Bull’s aerodynamic and carbon composite expertise. The project marks RBAT's transition from a design consultancy to a standalone manufacturer capable of handling limited-series vehicle production in-house. In recent years, the company has expanded its scope to include sustainable mobility, working on zero-emission transport solutions and high-efficiency maritime vessels for the America's Cup. Despite the departure of high-profile leadership figures like Adrian Newey in 2024, RBAT continues to operate as the primary R&D hub for the Red Bull Technology campus, focusing on the upcoming delivery of the RB17 series.
