Overview
Rimac Automobili is a Croatian high-performance electric vehicle manufacturer and technology provider specializing in electric hypercars and drivetrain systems. The company is recognized as a leader in high-voltage battery technology and electric propulsion, serving both as a boutique OEM and a Tier 1 supplier to global automotive brands.
History
Founded in 2009 by Mate Rimac in his garage, the company originated from a project to convert a 1984 BMW E30 into a record-breaking electric racing car. In 2011, Rimac unveiled the Concept_One at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which was the world's first electric hypercar. The company quickly gained international attention, not just for its vehicles, but for its ability to develop high-performance EV components in-house, leading to early investment and partnerships with established manufacturers. In 2018, the company introduced the C_Two, a prototype that underwent extensive global testing to become the production-ready Nevera. During this period, Rimac attracted significant investment from Porsche AG and Hyundai Motor Group, which sought to leverage Rimac's expertise in high-voltage battery systems and electric motors. This transition marked Rimac's evolution from a startup to a critical engineering hub for the wider automotive industry. A landmark moment occurred in 2021 when the Rimac Group was formed, leading to the creation of Bugatti Rimac—a joint venture with Porsche that saw Rimac take a 55% stake and operational control of the historic Bugatti brand. This restructuring separated the vehicle manufacturing arm (Bugatti Rimac) from the technology arm (Rimac Technology), allowing the company to scale its production and engineering services independently. Today, Rimac Automobili is focused on the production of the 150-unit Nevera series while completing its new global headquarters, the Rimac Campus. The company continues to push the boundaries of EV performance, recently setting multiple world records for acceleration and top speed, while expanding its influence through Rimac Technology's collaboration with various high-end automotive manufacturers.
