Overview
SSC North America is an American hypercar manufacturer dedicated to designing and producing high-performance, limited-production vehicles. The company focuses on competing with established European supercar brands through advanced aerodynamics and record-breaking speed capabilities.
History
Founded in 1998 by Jerod Shelby in Richland, Washington, the company was originally known as Shelby SuperCars Inc. It was established with the specific goal of creating an American-made supercar capable of challenging the dominance of European manufacturers in the high-performance market. The company is a separate entity from Carroll Shelby International. In 2007, the company gained international recognition when its SSC Ultimate Aero model was officially recorded by Guinness World Records as the 'World's Fastest Production Car,' reaching an average speed of 256.18 mph. This achievement solidified the company's reputation as a serious contender in the hypercar industry and provided the foundation for future development. Following the success of the Ultimate Aero, the company shifted its focus to the development of its next-generation hypercar, the Tuatara. The Tuatara was designed with a heavy emphasis on fighter jet-inspired aerodynamics to achieve extreme top speeds. In recent years, the company has continued to refine the Tuatara, conducting various high-speed testing runs to demonstrate its performance capabilities and maintain its position in the elite hypercar segment.
