Overview

Superformance LLC is a leading manufacturer and distributor of factory-built "rolling chassis" replica and continuation race cars, specializing in 1960s icons like the Shelby Cobra and Ford GT40. The company operates under a "turnkey-minus" model, providing high-quality, licensed chassis that are completed with engines and drivetrains by authorized dealers or owners.

History

Superformance was founded in 1994 by Jim Price in South Africa, establishing a long-standing partnership with Hi-Tech Automotive to hand-build every vehicle in a state-of-the-art facility. The company initially focused on the MKIII, a replica of the Shelby Cobra, and quickly expanded its lineup to include the legendary GT40 and Shelby Daytona Coupe. In 2005, the company was acquired by Lance Stander, a South African entrepreneur and racer, who moved the headquarters to Irvine, California, and transitioned it into a family-run global enterprise. Under Stander's leadership, Superformance secured official licensing from Shelby American and Safir GT40, ensuring their vehicles are recognized as authentic continuations rather than mere kit cars. Today, the company has produced over 6,500 vehicles globally and maintains a network of over 20 dealerships. Recent expansions include partnerships with Everrati to produce electric versions of the GT40, blending classic design with modern sustainable powertrains.
