Overview
Theon Design is a boutique British automotive design and engineering company specializing in high-end, bespoke restomods of air-cooled Porsche 911s, specifically based on the 964 generation. Applying an 'OEM+' engineering and design ethos, the company combines state-of-the-art digital 3D modelling with traditional coachbuilding to create modernized, lightweight driver's cars. It occupies a premier niche in the luxury automotive restomod market alongside builders like Singer Vehicle Design.
History
Theon Design was founded in 2016 by automotive designer Adam Hawley and business and marketing specialist Lucinda Argy, who named the business after their son, Theo. Prior to founding the company, Hawley amassed over two decades of design experience working with major OEMs including BMW, Jaguar, and Lotus. The project originated from Hawley's personal initiative to build the ultimate air-cooled Porsche 911, which served as the operational prototype; the founders sold that initial vehicle to secure seed capital to establish the company. Operating out of Oxfordshire within the United Kingdom's 'Motorsport Valley', Theon Design established a dedicated workshop facility to deliver bespoke, ground-up restorations. Each project begins by stripping an original Porsche 964 donor car down to its bare metal shell, scanning the chassis using 3D digital technology, and strengthening the platform before integrating lightweight carbon-fiber bodywork and modern powertrains. Each commission takes approximately 18 months and around 6,000 hours of specialized handcrafting and engineering. Over the years, Theon Design expanded its lineup from bespoke Coupe builds to include open-top Targa models and the ultra-lightweight, high-performance 'Theon R' line. Despite retaining ultra-exclusive low-volume production metrics of just a handful of cars per year, the firm has garnered international critical acclaim from leading automotive publications and established a global collector client base across Europe, North America, and beyond.
