Overview

Totem Automobili is an Italian boutique automotive manufacturer that specializes in the high-end restoration and radical re-engineering of classic Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA models. They are positioned in the ultra-luxury restomod market, combining iconic 1960s Italian design with modern carbon fiber construction and advanced electric or internal combustion powertrains.

History

Founded in 2018 by automotive designer Riccardo Quaggio, Totem Automobili was established in Marcon, near Venice, with the goal of reimagining the legendary Alfa Romeo Giulia GT Junior for the modern era. Quaggio, who previously worked for Honda and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, sought to preserve the aesthetic soul of the original car while replacing nearly every mechanical and structural component with state-of-the-art technology. The company's first major milestone was the development of a proprietary carbon fiber monocoque designed to integrate with the original vehicle's bulkhead, a process that significantly reduced weight and improved structural rigidity. In 2020, the firm gained international attention with the digital debut of the Totem GT Electric, which replaced the classic twin-cam engine with a 518-horsepower electric motor and a bespoke battery pack. This was followed by the announcement of the GT Super, an internal combustion version powered by a heavily modified 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. Each vehicle produced by Totem is a bespoke creation, requiring over 6,000 man-hours to complete, reflecting the company's commitment to artisanal craftsmanship and technical excellence. Today, Totem Automobili continues to operate as a low-volume manufacturer, hand-assembling limited editions for a global clientele of collectors.
