Steering rack & pinion
Converts rotational steering wheel input into lateral wheel movement through a gear mechanism.
Struts
Integrated suspension units combining shock absorber and spring mounting in a structural component.
Subframe
Secondary frame that supports suspension and drivetrain components, isolating them from main chassis.
Brakes

Brake booster
Uses engine vacuum to amplify brake pedal force, reducing effort needed for effective braking.
Brake discs/rotors
Rotating metal discs attached to wheels that brake pads clamp onto, dissipating kinetic energy as heat.
Brake drums
Cylindrical components in drum brake systems that shoes press against from the inside to create braking force.
Brake fluid reservoir & cap
Stores brake fluid for hydraulic system, allowing level checking and fluid replenishment.
Brake lines & hoses
Transport brake fluid under pressure from master cylinder to wheel brakes, using rigid lines and flexible hoses.
Brake pads
Friction material that clamps against brake discs to slow the vehicle, designed for heat resistance and consistent performance.
Brake pedal
Driver-operated lever that activates the braking system, converting foot pressure into hydraulic force.
Brake shoes
Curved friction material in drum brakes that expands outward to contact drum and create stopping force.
Electrical & Electronics
A
B
Battery
Stores electrical energy to start engine and power systems when engine is off, acting as voltage stabilizer.
Battery terminals & cables
Heavy-duty connections that transmit high current between battery and vehicle electrical system.
Body control module
Manages various body electrical functions including lighting, locks, and convenience features.
Brake lights
Bright red lights that illuminate when brakes are applied, warning following drivers.
C
F
Fog lights
Low-mounted lights designed to improve visibility in fog, rain, or snow without causing glare.
Fuse box
Central distribution point for electrical circuits with protective fuses for each circuit.
Fuses & relays
Protective devices that prevent electrical overload and switches that control high-current circuits.
I
T
Tail lights
Red rear lights that make vehicle visible from behind, particularly important in low visibility.
Temperature sensors
Monitor coolant, intake air, and other temperatures for proper engine management.
Transmission control unit (TCU)
Computer that manages automatic transmission gear changes based on various sensor inputs.
Cooling & HVAC
C
Cabin air filter
Removes dust, pollen, and pollutants from air entering cabin ventilation system.
Condenser
Radiator-like component that cools and condenses refrigerant gas into liquid.
Coolant hoses
Transport coolant between engine, radiator, and heater core, designed to withstand high temperatures and pressure.
Cooling fan(s)
Draw or push air through radiator when vehicle speed is insufficient for natural airflow cooling.
E
H
R
Radiator
Heat exchanger that dissipates engine heat into atmosphere via airflow and coolant circulation.
Radiator cap
Pressurizes cooling system to raise coolant boiling point while acting as pressure relief valve.
Receiver-drier / accumulator
Filters and stores refrigerant while removing moisture from AC system.
T
Fuel & Exhaust
E
F
Fuel filter
Removes contaminants from fuel before it reaches injectors, protecting sensitive fuel system components.
Fuel gauge sender
Float-operated sensor in fuel tank that reports fuel level to dashboard gauge.
Fuel lines
Transport fuel from tank to engine, using pressure-resistant materials for safety and reliability.
Fuel pump
Electric pump submerged in fuel tank that delivers pressurized fuel to injection system.
Fuel tank
Stores fuel supply for engine, designed with safety features to prevent leaks in crashes.
