Overview
9ff is a German automotive manufacturer and high-performance tuning specialist based in Dortmund. Founded in 2001, the company is globally recognized for engineering record-breaking, ultra-high-speed vehicles based on Porsche platforms, most notably the bespoke mid-engined GT9 supercar.
History
Jan Fatthauer founded 9ff Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH in 2001 in Dortmund, Germany, following a career at prominent German tuning firms. The company’s primary objective was to push the performance boundaries of Porsche vehicles, specifically focusing on extreme top-speed capabilities. Early success came in 2004 when the 9ff V400 reached 388 km/h at the Nardò Ring, establishing 9ff as a premier name in the ultra-performance segment. In 2007, 9ff introduced its most ambitious project, the GT9. Unlike typical tuning projects, the GT9 featured a mid-engine layout and a bespoke chassis to optimize high-speed stability, designed to challenge the Bugatti Veyron’s top-speed record. Various iterations followed, including the GT9-R and the 1,400 hp GT9 Vmax, which claimed a top speed of 437 km/h. The company faced financial challenges in 2013, leading to the filing for bankruptcy of 9ff Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH. However, Jan Fatthauer reorganized the operations almost immediately as 9ff Engineering GmbH. This transition allowed the company to continue its engineering work, focusing on both complete vehicle builds and the development of specialized high-performance components for the global market. Today, 9ff continues to operate as a boutique manufacturer and engineering consultancy. They provide highly customized engine programs, aerodynamic packages, and full vehicle conversions for a global clientele. The firm remains a leader in the niche market for 1000+ horsepower street-legal Porsche-based machines, maintaining its tradition of technical excellence and speed.
