Overview
Avatr Technology is a Chinese premium electric vehicle manufacturer focused on high-end, intelligent mobility solutions. The company leverages a strategic partnership between Changan Automobile, CATL, and Huawei to integrate advanced battery technology, smart cockpit systems, and autonomous driving capabilities into its vehicle lineup.
History
Avatr Technology was originally established in 2018 as a joint venture between Changan Automobile and NIO, initially operating under the name Changan-Nio. The company was created to explore futuristic, humanized travel solutions, but underwent a significant restructuring in 2021 when it rebranded to Avatr Technology and began independent operations. During this transition, NIO's stake was heavily diluted, and the company shifted its focus toward a high-end, intelligent EV strategy. In 2021, the company secured major investment from CATL, which became a key shareholder alongside Changan Automobile. This partnership solidified the brand's access to cutting-edge battery technology. Simultaneously, the company integrated Huawei as a strategic partner to provide advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and smart cockpit software, forming the core of its 'CHN' technology platform (Changan, Huawei, and CATL). Since its rebranding, Avatr has expanded its global footprint with design operations centered in Munich, Germany, and corporate hubs in Chongqing and Shanghai, China. The company has successfully completed multiple funding rounds, including a significant Series C round in late 2024, and has filed for a Hong Kong IPO to support its goal of becoming a global leader in the premium intelligent EV market by 2030.
