Overview

The Cadillac Formula 1 Team is an American professional motor racing constructor set to enter the FIA Formula 1 World Championship in 2026. A collaboration between General Motors and TWG Motorsports, the team focuses on showcasing American engineering and luxury performance through a full works-backed factory effort.

History

The project was officially unveiled in early 2023 as a partnership between Michael Andretti's Andretti Global and General Motors' Cadillac brand to establish an American presence on the Formula 1 grid. Despite receiving approval from the FIA in October 2023, the bid initially faced rejection from Formula One Management (FOM) in early 2024. This led to a period of intense negotiation and political maneuvering within the sport's leadership. In late 2024, a breakthrough agreement was reached following a restructuring of the team's leadership, with Dan Towriss of TWG Motorsports taking a primary role and Michael Andretti transitioning to an advisory position. Formula 1 formally announced that the Cadillac entry had been provisionally accepted for the 2026 season as the championship's 11th team. This approval came with the commitment that the team would eventually produce its own proprietary power units. Currently, the team is in a massive scaling phase, constructing a multi-continental operational structure. This includes a global headquarters in Fishers, Indiana, and a dedicated European technical hub at Silverstone in the United Kingdom. General Motors has already registered as a power unit manufacturer for the 2028 season, signaling a long-term strategic commitment to the sport's technical evolution.
