Overview

Capricorn Group is a high-performance German engineering firm and motorsport component specialist that recently transitioned into full vehicle manufacturing. Renowned as a 'hidden champion' of the automotive industry, the company focuses on extreme lightweight construction and analog driving dynamics, recently launching its first complete hypercar, the Capricorn 01 Zagato.

History

Founded in 1933, Capricorn began its journey as a specialist manufacturer of crankshafts, eventually becoming one of the oldest and most respected names in high-precision engine componentry. Over several decades, the company evolved from a component manufacturer into a Tier 1 engineering powerhouse for the motorsport elite, contributing critical parts to over 18 Formula 1 World Championship titles and numerous victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Throughout the late 20th and early 21st centuries, Capricorn expanded its expertise into advanced composite materials and high-performance engine systems. The company became a vital technical partner for prestigious OEMs, producing carbon fiber structures, pistons, and aerodynamic components for iconic vehicles such as the Bugatti Veyron, McLaren P1, and the Porsche 919 Hybrid. Its production facilities, strategically located near the Nürburgring, solidified its reputation for combining racing-grade precision with series-production reliability. In October 2025, Capricorn marked a historic milestone by unveiling the Capricorn 01 Zagato at the Zoute Grand Prix. This debut vehicle, a collaboration with the legendary Italian design house Zagato, represents Capricorn’s evolution from a specialized supplier to a boutique OEM. The car was designed as a 'manifesto' for analog driving, featuring a manual transmission and a carbon fiber monocoque derived from LMP1 racing technology. Today, Capricorn Group continues to operate as a family-run technology firm with a high degree of vertical integration. While maintaining its core business in motorsport and aerospace components, the company is scaling its automotive manufacturing capabilities. Plans are currently underway to expand its Nürburgring-based facilities to support a future production volume of up to 200 high-performance vehicles per year.
