Overview

Dallara is a world-renowned Italian automotive engineering firm specializing in the design, development, and production of high-performance racing cars and advanced automotive components. It serves as the primary chassis supplier for major global racing series and provides expert engineering consultancy to prestigious automotive manufacturers.

History

Founded in 1972 by Giampaolo Dallara in Varano de' Melegari, Italy, the company initially focused on building chassis for sports car racing and hillclimbing. Over the decades, Dallara established itself as a dominant force in motorsport, eventually becoming the sole manufacturer for major series including IndyCar, FIA Formula 2, and FIA Formula 3. In 1988, the company expanded its expertise into the automotive sector, providing engineering consultancy to high-end brands such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Bugatti. This transition leveraged their racing-derived knowledge in aerodynamics and composite materials to assist in the development of road-going supercars and hypercars. In 2012, the company significantly expanded its international footprint by opening the Dallara IndyCar Factory in Speedway, Indiana, to better serve the North American market. In 2017, the company launched its first proprietary road car, the Dallara Stradale, followed by the track-only EXP model in 2021. Today, the group continues to innovate across racing, automotive, and aerospace sectors, maintaining its status as a cornerstone of Italy's 'Motor Valley'.
