Overview

DeLorean Motors Reimagined LLC is a luxury electric vehicle manufacturer focused on reviving the iconic DeLorean brand through modern, high-performance EVs. The company's primary focus is the Alpha5, a sleek grand tourer that incorporates the signature gull-wing doors of its predecessor while targeting the ultra-luxury EV market.

History

The original DeLorean Motor Company (DMC), founded by John DeLorean in 1975, famously produced the DMC-12 before filing for bankruptcy in 1982. Following the dissolution of the original company, the branding and remaining parts inventory were eventually acquired by Stephen Wynne in Texas, who focused on restoration and parts supply for the existing DMC-12 fleet for several decades. In early 2022, DeLorean Motors Reimagined LLC was formed as a new entity based in San Antonio, Texas, led by CEO Joost de Vries and other former executives from Karma Automotive and Tesla. This new iteration of the brand sought to move beyond restoration and into the production of entirely new electric vehicles, leveraging the historical weight of the DeLorean name for a new generation of luxury buyers. The company officially unveiled the Alpha5 in May 2022, featuring a design by Italdesign Giugiaro, the same firm responsible for the original DMC-12. Shortly after its launch, the company faced legal challenges, including a lawsuit from Karma Automotive alleging the theft of trade secrets, though the parties eventually reached a settlement. Throughout 2023 and 2024, the company has worked on securing investment and finalizing the engineering for the Alpha5. While the company remains a startup in the pre-production phase, it has expanded its vision to include potential future models like the Alpha5 Plasmata and the Omega concept, aiming to establish a full lineup of luxury electric mobility solutions.
