Overview
Elemental Motor Company is a British low-volume manufacturer specializing in high-performance, lightweight sports cars designed for both road and track use. The company leverages advanced motorsport engineering principles and composite materials to create vehicles with a focus on aerodynamics and driver engagement.
History
Elemental Motor Company was founded in 2012 by John Begley, a former McLaren Formula 1 engineer, and Mark Fowler, a former McLaren F1 aerodynamics engineer. The company was established with the goal of creating a cutting-edge, lightweight sports car that incorporates 21st-century motorsport design and advanced materials. The team, which includes experts from both F1 and prestige automotive backgrounds, operates out of Hampshire, UK. The company's flagship project, the Elemental RP1 (Race Project One), was first unveiled as a prototype at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2014. Following extensive development, a production-ready version of the RP1 was presented at the same event in 2016. The vehicle is notable for its carbon-fiber tub and advanced aerodynamic underfloor, which were designed to provide significant downforce while maintaining a street-legal configuration. Beyond vehicle manufacturing, the company operates as part of the Elemental Group, which includes Elemental Automotive Consulting and Elemental Racing. This structure allows the team to apply their expertise in vehicle dynamics, composites, and aerodynamics to consulting projects for other automotive and race car OEMs, while continuing to support their own vehicle production.
