Overview
Envision Racing is a professional motor racing team competing in the FIA Formula E World Championship. Based in the United Kingdom and owned by the green technology firm Envision Group, the team serves as a competitive platform for testing and promoting high-performance electric vehicle technologies and renewable energy solutions.
History
The team was originally founded in 2014 as Virgin Racing, participating as one of the ten founding teams in the inaugural season of the FIA Formula E Championship. During its early years, the team operated as DS Virgin Racing through a partnership with the French manufacturer DS Automobiles, achieving significant success on the track. In 2018, the Chinese renewable energy giant Envision Group acquired a majority stake in the team, rebranding it as Envision Virgin Racing and switching to Audi-supplied powertrains. In 2021, Envision Group completed a full acquisition of the team, dropping the Virgin branding to become Envision Racing. This transition marked a deeper integration with Envision's 'Race Against Climate Change' sustainability program, which utilizes the racing platform to advocate for global carbon neutrality. The team moved its operations to a state-of-the-art carbon-neutral facility at Silverstone Park to further align with its environmental goals. For the Gen3 era of Formula E starting in late 2022, Envision Racing entered a multi-year partnership with Jaguar Land Rover to utilize Jaguar's I-TYPE 6 powertrain. This technical collaboration proved highly effective, leading the team to secure the FIA Formula E Teams' World Championship title in the 2022-2023 season. Today, the team continues to be a frontrunner in the series, focusing on software optimization and energy management as key performance differentiators.
