Overview

Factory Five Racing is the world's largest manufacturer of "build-it-yourself" component car kits, specializing in high-performance replicas and original sports car designs. The company focuses on providing affordable, engineered projects that allow enthusiasts to assemble their own vehicles using modern running gear and advanced manufacturing techniques.

History

Founded in 1995 by brothers Dave and Mark Smith, Factory Five Racing began in a small garage in Massachusetts with the goal of improving the component car industry through better engineering and manufacturing. Their first major success was the FFR Roadster, a replica of the 1965 427 Cobra designed to use components from a late-model Ford Mustang donor car. Over the following decades, the company expanded its lineup to include the Type 65 Coupe, the mid-engined GTM Supercar, and the '33 Hot Rod. They transitioned from a small startup to a 62,000-square-foot facility in Wareham, Massachusetts, utilizing advanced technologies like CNC machining and laser cutting to ensure precision in their chassis and body components. In recent years, Factory Five has continued to innovate with the 818, a lightweight sports car designed for a global market, and the all-steel body '33 Hot Rod. The company remains a leader in the kit car market, maintaining a strong community-driven approach where customers are integral to the brand's identity and development process.
