Overview
Ferrari AF Corse is the factory-backed endurance racing and competition operations partnership between Ferrari and Italian motorsport specialist AF Corse. The outfit manages Ferrari's works program in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), including campaigning the Ferrari 499P Le Mans Hypercar and supporting GT racing entries. AF Corse acts as the operational and engineering execution arm for Ferrari's top-tier international endurance racing efforts.
History
AF Corse was founded by former Italian racing driver Amato Ferrari in Piacenza, Italy. Initially established in the mid-1990s and formally restructured under the AF Corse brand in 2002, the outfit quickly developed deep ties to the Fiat Group's motorsport ventures, initially running Maserati Trofeo and Maserati MC12 GT1 campaigns before becoming the premier partner for Ferrari's GT racing activities. Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, AF Corse operated as Ferrari's de facto factory representative in international sports car racing, competing in the FIA GT Championship, the Le Mans Series, and subsequently the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC). The team dominated GT competition with machines like the Ferrari F430 GTC, 458 Italia GT2, and 488 GTE, amassing multiple manufacturer and team titles as well as numerous class victories at the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 2021, Ferrari announced its return to top-flight prototype endurance racing under the Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) regulations, selecting AF Corse to run the works Ferrari AF Corse squad. Debuting in 2023 with the hybrid 499P, the partnership achieved historic consecutive overall victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2023 and 2024, re-establishing Ferrari as an elite prototype force alongside its continued GT3 racing support.
