Overview
Hennessey Performance Engineering is an American hypercar manufacturer and high-performance tuning firm specializing in extreme vehicle modifications and bespoke high-speed vehicles. Based in Sealy, Texas, the company is globally recognized for its 'Venom' series of hypercars and its 'VelociRaptor' performance truck line, holding a unique position as both a boutique manufacturer and a premier aftermarket engineering house.
History
Founded in 1991 by John Hennessey, the company began its journey by modifying a Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. This early success pivoted the company toward the Dodge Viper, where the 'Venom 650R' modification package earned international acclaim for its ability to outperform European supercars of the era. By the early 2000s, Hennessey had established a large-scale facility in Sealy, Texas, which eventually included the Lonestar Motorsports Park, a private drag strip used for testing and validation. The brand transitioned from a dedicated tuner to a boutique manufacturer with the 2010 launch of the Venom GT. Utilizing a heavily modified Lotus chassis and a twin-turbocharged GM-based V8, the Venom GT set a Guinness World Record for the fastest 0–300 km/h acceleration and achieved a top speed of 270.49 mph in 2014. This period marked the company's emergence as a legitimate competitor to established hypercar brands like Bugatti and Koenigsegg. In 2017, Hennessey announced the Venom F5, their first vehicle engineered entirely from the ground up, including a bespoke chassis and a custom 6.6-liter twin-turbo V8 engine named 'Fury'. This shift necessitated the creation of Hennessey Special Vehicles (HSV), a separate division focused on hypercar production. Today, the company maintains a dual-track business model, producing a limited run of multimillion-dollar hypercars while simultaneously offering high-output performance packages for a wide range of Ford, GM, and RAM vehicles.
