Overview
Hennessey Special Vehicles (HSV) is an American bespoke hypercar manufacturer dedicated to engineering and building ultra-high-performance vehicles designed to exceed 300 mph. Operating independently from Hennessey's aftermarket tuning business, the marque is best known for developing the ground-up Venom F5 platform and the analog Blackbird hypercar. The company competes at the pinnacle of the low-volume global hypercar segment alongside manufacturers like Bugatti, Koenigsegg, and Pagani.
History
Hennessey Special Vehicles traces its roots to 1991, when founder John Hennessey established Hennessey Performance Engineering (HPE) modifying sports cars and twin-turbo Dodge Vipers in Texas. After years of tuning high-end platforms, HPE introduced the Venom GT in 2010—a heavily modified chassis powered by a twin-turbo GM V8 that set a verified two-way speed record for convertibles and claimed a 270.49 mph top speed at Kennedy Space Center. Recognizing the limitations of modifying existing OEM platforms, John Hennessey founded Hennessey Special Vehicles in 2017 with the explicit mission to design, engineer, and manufacture all-new hypercars entirely from the ground up. The company revealed the concept for its flagship hypercar, the Venom F5, at the 2017 SEMA Show, featuring an in-house carbon-fiber monocoque and a bespoke 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine codenamed 'Fury.' Full-scale development and production accelerated under former GM Performance Division director John Heinricy as Chief Engineer. Production customer deliveries of the Venom F5 began in late 2021 and early 2022 from a dedicated assembly facility in Sealy, Texas. Expanding the lineup, HSV followed the original sold-out Coupe with the Venom F5 Roadster, track-oriented Venom F5 Revolution, the gated-manual Venom F5-M Roadster, and the naturally aspirated Blackbird hypercar, supported by a significant multi-million dollar expansion of its manufacturing footprint.
