Overview
Jaguar Land Rover Classic is the specialized heritage division of JLR, dedicated to the preservation, restoration, and continuation of historic Jaguar and Land Rover models. Based at the dedicated 'Classic Works' facility, the division offers factory-certified restorations, bespoke electric conversions, and limited-run 'Continuation' models built to original specifications using modern precision engineering.
History
Jaguar Land Rover Classic was formally established as a dedicated business unit within JLR's Special Operations division around 2014. While the brands had long maintained heritage collections, the move was designed to capitalize on the growing global demand for high-end vehicle restoration and 'Continuation' cars. The division proved the business model's viability with the 2014 launch of the 'Missing Six' Lightweight E-types, which utilized chassis numbers originally allocated in 1963 but never used. In June 2017, the company opened 'Classic Works' in Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Coventry. This £7 million, 14,000-square-meter facility is the largest of its kind in the world, housing a dedicated showroom, 54 workshop bays, and a collection of over 500 historic vehicles. This centralization allowed the company to offer 'Reborn' programs for the Land Rover Series I and Range Rover Classic, ensuring every component met original factory standards. The division gained significant international attention through its 'Continuation' projects, including the XKSS, D-type, and the C-type, the latter of which celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2021. These vehicles are built by hand using a mix of traditional craftsmanship and modern CAD technology to replicate original construction methods while improving durability and safety. In recent years, the division has also explored the intersection of heritage and sustainability, notably with the E-type Zero, an all-electric conversion of the iconic sports car. Today, Jaguar Land Rover Classic operates as a crucial pillar of JLR's 'House of Brands' strategy, supporting the longevity of the existing fleet through the production of over 3,000 genuine classic parts. It serves as both a workshop for elite collectors and a guardian of the technical knowledge required to maintain some of the most influential designs in automotive history.
