Overview
Kimera Automobili is a boutique Italian automotive manufacturer specializing in high-performance restomods and modern interpretations of legendary rally cars. Their flagship models, the EVO37 and EVO38, are celebrated for blending 1980s racing heritage with cutting-edge materials and contemporary engineering.
History
Founded by former professional rally driver Luca Betti, Kimera Automobili was established to pay homage to the 'Golden Age' of Italian rallying. The company's vision was to create an 'Authentic Evolution' of the Lancia 037, the last rear-wheel-drive car to win the World Rally Championship. To ensure historical accuracy and mechanical excellence, Betti reunited several members of the original Lancia engineering team, including Claudio Lombardi and Sergio Limone, to collaborate on the project. The brand's first production model, the Kimera EVO37, made its public debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2021. Limited to just 37 units, the car utilized a Lancia Beta Montecarlo central cell but featured completely redesigned suspension, a twin-charged 2.1-liter engine developed by Italtecnica, and carbon fiber bodywork. The success of the EVO37 established Kimera as a major player in the ultra-luxury restomod market. In 2024, the company unveiled the EVO38, an all-wheel-drive evolution that addressed the 'what if' scenario of a 4WD successor to the original 037. This was followed by the announcement of the K39, a silhouette racer intended for competition use. Today, Kimera operates from its headquarters in Cuneo, Italy, maintaining a position at the intersection of artisanal craftsmanship and high-technology motorsport development.
