Overview
Ligier Automotive is a French racing car constructor that specializes in the design, production, and operation of sports prototypes, GT cars, and single-seaters. The company is a prominent supplier for endurance racing series worldwide, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans and various LMP3 championships. It operates as a key technical partner for teams seeking high-performance, purpose-built competition vehicles.
History
Ligier Automotive was founded in 2012 by Jacques Nicolet as Onroak Automotive, emerging from the racing activities of the OAK Racing team. Based in Magny-Cours, France, the company was established to design, manufacture, and sell a range of sports prototypes and racing cars for international competition, continuing the legacy of the Ligier brand in motorsport. In 2013, a strategic partnership with Guy Ligier allowed the company to use the historic Ligier name for its new chassis. This collaboration resulted in the Ligier JS P2, which became a successful LMP2 contender, followed by the JS P3, which dominated the LMP3 category globally. The company quickly established itself as a leading constructor in the endurance racing market. The company rebranded to Ligier Automotive in 2019 to consolidate its identity and heritage under the iconic French brand. This transition included the integration of Tork Engineering and the expansion of its portfolio into GT racing with the JS2 R and single-seater categories like Formula 4 and Formula 3, broadening its reach across the motorsport ladder. Currently, Ligier Automotive maintains a significant international presence with facilities in France and the United States. The firm continues to innovate in motorsport, recently partnering with Bosch Engineering to develop high-performance hydrogen-powered racing prototypes, signaling a commitment to future sustainable racing technologies.
