Overview

The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team is the works Formula One racing division of Mercedes-Benz, competing at the highest level of international motorsport. The team designs and manufactures its own racing chassis while integrating advanced hybrid power units developed by its sister company, Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains.

History

The team's lineage begins with Tyrrell Racing, which entered Formula One in 1968 and was later sold to become British American Racing (BAR) in 1999. In 2006, Honda took full control of the outfit, but following their withdrawal in 2008, Ross Brawn led a management buyout to form Brawn GP, which remarkably won both World Championships in 2009. Daimler AG, in partnership with Aabar Investments, purchased a majority stake in late 2009, rebranding the team as Mercedes GP for the 2010 season. Under the leadership of figures like Toto Wolff and Niki Lauda, the team entered a period of unprecedented dominance during the turbo-hybrid era starting in 2014. They secured eight consecutive Constructors' World Championships from 2014 to 2021, setting new records for technical excellence and operational efficiency. Today, the team remains a frontrunner in the sport, focusing on sustainable racing technologies, advanced aerodynamics, and the development of high-performance automotive systems.
