Overview
Nichols Cars is a British boutique automotive manufacturer specializing in low-volume, high-performance supercars designed for a raw, analogue driving experience. Founded by legendary Formula 1 designer Steve Nichols, the company focuses on lightweight construction and driver-centric engineering, positioning itself in the ultra-exclusive enthusiast market.
History
Nichols Cars was founded in 2017 by Steve Nichols, the renowned engineer behind the McLaren MP4/4, and John Minett. The company was established with the goal of creating a modern interpretation of the 1960s Can-Am racers, specifically the McLaren M1A, which Steve Nichols had long admired. The firm spent several years in the development and prototyping phase, refining a lightweight chassis and a high-displacement naturally aspirated powertrain. In July 2023, the company officially unveiled the production-ready N1A, a 900kg supercar featuring a 7.0-liter V8 engine. The launch was marked by a special "Icon 88" series of 15 cars, each commemorating a victory of the McLaren MP4/4. This reveal transitioned the company from a design and engineering project into a commercial manufacturer. In May 2026, Nichols Cars announced a strategic manufacturing partnership with RML Group (Ray Mallock Limited) to handle the assembly of the N1A at RML's facility in Northamptonshire. This partnership allowed the company to leverage RML's expertise in low-volume, high-performance vehicle production. Customer car production officially commenced in mid-2026, with a total production run limited to 100 units globally.
