Overview

Pagani Automobili is a boutique Italian manufacturer of ultra-luxury hypercars and advanced composite materials. Founded by Horacio Pagani, the company is renowned for blending Renaissance-inspired artistic design with cutting-edge engineering, catering to an elite global clientele with highly bespoke vehicles.

History

The company's origins trace back to Horacio Pagani, an Argentinian-born engineer who moved to Italy in 1982 with a recommendation from Juan Manuel Fangio. After a significant career at Lamborghini where he pioneered the use of carbon fiber in the Countach Evoluzione, Pagani founded Modena Design in 1991 to provide design and engineering services. In 1992, he established Pagani Automobili Modena to realize his vision of the 'perfect' supercar. Pagani's first production model, the Zonda C12, debuted at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show to immediate acclaim. The Zonda was powered by a Mercedes-AMG V12 engine, beginning a technical partnership that remains the cornerstone of the brand's powertrain strategy. Over the next decade, the Zonda evolved through numerous iterations, including the F, Cinque, and the track-focused Zonda R, cementing Pagani's status in the hypercar pantheon. In 2011, Pagani introduced its second major model line, the Huayra. Named after the Andean god of wind, the Huayra introduced active aerodynamics and a more luxurious interior philosophy. The Huayra's development focused on the 'Art and Science' concept, utilizing Pagani's proprietary Carbo-Titanium material for the monocoque. The Huayra lineage expanded to include the Roadster, the high-performance BC, and the non-road-legal Huayra R. In 2022, Pagani unveiled its third pillar, the Utopia. This model emphasized a return to mechanical purity, offering a manual transmission alongside its AMG-sourced V12 engine, deliberately eschewing heavy hybrid systems. Today, Pagani remains an independent, family-controlled entity, operating out of a state-of-the-art facility that doubles as a museum and workshop in the heart of Italy's 'Motor Valley.'
