Overview
PAL-V is a Dutch manufacturer focused on the development of 'FlyDrive' vehicles, which combine the capabilities of a three-wheeled car and a gyroplane. The company aims to provide personal door-to-door air mobility by designing vehicles that comply with existing road and aviation regulations.
History
PAL-V (Personal Air and Land Vehicle) was founded in 2008 in the Netherlands with the goal of creating a practical flying car. The company spent several years in research and development, focusing on a design that could bridge the gap between automotive and aviation standards. In 2012, the company successfully completed the first flight and drive tests of its proof-of-concept prototype, demonstrating the technical feasibility of its dual-mode vehicle. Following the success of the prototype, the company shifted its focus toward engineering a commercial production model, the PAL-V Liberty. Throughout the 2010s and early 2020s, the company worked extensively on certification milestones with aviation authorities like EASA to ensure the vehicle could be legally operated on both public roads and in the air. This approach distinguished them from many eVTOL startups that rely on future regulatory frameworks. In recent years, PAL-V has moved toward production readiness, securing various certification milestones and announcing international expansion plans, including debuts in the UAE. The company has also established a global presence with regional sales offices and continues to refine its FlyDrive platform for both private and professional use cases.
