Overview
Prodrive is a British motorsport and advanced engineering group that provides design, manufacturing, and operational services to the automotive, aerospace, and marine sectors. The company specializes in niche vehicle development, motorsport program management, and the application of high-performance engineering solutions to commercial and industrial projects.
History
Prodrive was founded in 1984 by David Richards and Ian Parry, initially focusing on motorsport team management and rally programs. The company quickly gained prominence through its long-standing partnership with Subaru, which began in the late 1980s and led to multiple World Rally Championship titles, most notably with driver Colin McRae in the 1990s. This success established Prodrive as a premier technical organization in the global rally scene. In 1990, the company expanded its scope by forming Prodrive Advanced Technology, a division dedicated to applying motorsport-derived engineering expertise to other market sectors, including aerospace and marine. Throughout the 2000s, Prodrive diversified its portfolio by managing Formula 1 programs, such as British American Racing (BAR), and achieving significant success in endurance racing with Aston Martin, including class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In recent years, Prodrive has focused on niche vehicle manufacturing and sustainable technology. This includes the development of exclusive road-going projects like the Hunter Hypercar and the P25, as well as collaborative ventures in electric mobility, such as the Evolv electric delivery van developed with Astheimer. Today, the company continues to operate as a multidisciplinary engineering group, leveraging its heritage in high-pressure racing environments to deliver industrial-grade solutions for global OEMs and startups.
