Overview

Scuderia Ferrari is the dedicated racing division of the luxury Italian manufacturer Ferrari and the most successful team in Formula One history. It operates as a full-scale constructor, designing and manufacturing its own chassis, internal combustion engines, and hybrid power systems specifically for the FIA Formula One World Championship.

History

Scuderia Ferrari was founded in 1929 by Enzo Ferrari, originally to race Alfa Romeo cars and manage the racing activities of amateur drivers. In 1933, it effectively became Alfa Romeo's official racing department, but Enzo eventually split to form Auto Avio Costruzioni just before World War II. After the war, the first Ferrari-badged car, the 125 S, debuted in 1947, and the team entered the inaugural Formula One World Championship in 1950. Throughout the 1950s and 60s, Ferrari became a dominant force with legendary drivers like Alberto Ascari, Juan Manuel Fangio, and John Surtees. The team saw a major resurgence in the mid-1970s under the leadership of Luca di Montezemolo and the driving of Niki Lauda, securing multiple titles. After a period of decline in the 1980s, the late 1990s marked the beginning of Ferrari's most dominant era, led by Jean Todt, Ross Brawn, and driver Michael Schumacher, who won five consecutive titles between 2000 and 2004. In the modern hybrid era, Scuderia Ferrari has remained a top-tier competitor, though it has faced stiff challenges from Mercedes and Red Bull. The team continues to be the only outfit on the grid to manufacture its entire vehicle (engine and chassis) under one roof in Maranello. Today, it serves as the ultimate technological laboratory for Ferrari's road car division, transferring hybrid and aerodynamic innovations from the track to their production models.
