Overview
Techrules is a Beijing-based automotive research and development company that specializes in innovative range-extending technologies for electric vehicles. Their flagship product is the Techrules Ren, a high-performance supercar utilizing a proprietary Turbine-Recharging Electric Vehicle (TREV) system.
History
Techrules was founded around 2015 as a subsidiary of Tx-Inc, a Chinese research and development firm focused on environmental technologies. The company made its international debut at the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show, where it presented the AT96 and GT96 concepts. These vehicles showcased the company's Micro-Turbine Range Extender (TREV) technology, which uses a turbine to generate electricity for the battery pack rather than driving the wheels directly. In 2017, Techrules returned to Geneva to unveil the production-ready version of their supercar, named 'Ren'. The vehicle featured a unique modular design by legendary designers Giorgetto and Fabrizio Giugiaro of GFG Style. The engineering and construction of the car were conducted in collaboration with L.M. Gianetti in Turin, Italy, a firm known for its expertise in high-performance racing and prototype vehicles. The Ren featured a distinctive three-cockpit layout and a canopy-style entry system inspired by aerospace design. Following the launch of the Ren, Techrules introduced the Ren RS in 2018, a track-only variant designed for higher performance and aerodynamics. The company’s primary objective has been to demonstrate that turbine technology can provide a lightweight, efficient, and low-emission alternative to traditional internal combustion range extenders. In recent years, the company has explored licensing its micro-turbine technology for use in other sectors, including public transport and commercial vehicles. While the Ren remains their primary automotive showcase, Techrules continues to focus on the industrial application of their TREV system to address range limitations and charging infrastructure challenges in the broader EV market.
