SBR / BR Tyre Elastomers
Styrene-butadiene and butadiene rubber for tyre treads and sidewalls, distinct from generic rubber.
Overview
SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber) and BR (polybutadiene) are the primary synthetic elastomers in passenger-car and performance tyre treads and sidewalls. Solution-SBR with silica is the rolling-resistance workhorse; high-cis BR contributes abrasion resistance and sidewall hysteresis. The library's generic rubber page covers mixed NR/SBR compounds, mounts and weatherstrips. Carbon black and precipitated silica are fillers, not the elastomer. This page is the tyre-specific SBR/BR family — including SSBR grades used in EV and low-rolling-resistance treads. Typical buyable form is bale rubber, compounded then calendared and built into a tyre. It is not EPDM, NBR or FKM.
