Zinc Flake Coatings
A thin, high-performance anti-corrosion coating based on zinc and aluminium flakes in an inorganic or organic binder, used on fasteners and underbody components.
Overview
Zinc flake coatings (e.g. Geomet™, Dacromet™, Delta-Protekt™) consist of overlapping zinc and aluminium flakes in a binder matrix, applied by dip-spinning or spraying. They provide galvanic (sacrificial) corrosion protection at very thin coating thicknesses (5–15 µm) with excellent salt spray resistance (720–2,000+ hours). Critically, zinc flake systems are chromium-free and hydrogen embrittlement-free, making them the preferred choice for high-strength fasteners and safety-critical components. In automotive applications they are widely used on bolts, nuts, springs, brake components, and underbody fittings.
