Overview
Automobili Pininfarina is a luxury electric vehicle manufacturer that focuses on the design and production of ultra-exclusive, high-performance hypercars. Headquartered in Munich with Italian design heritage, the brand positions itself at the intersection of sustainable technology and bespoke coachbuilding for the world's most discerning collectors.
History
While the Pininfarina name has been synonymous with world-class automotive design since Battista 'Pinin' Farina founded the design house in 1930, Automobili Pininfarina GmbH was officially established in 2018 as a standalone car manufacturer. The launch followed the acquisition of Pininfarina S.p.A. by the Indian conglomerate Mahindra & Mahindra in 2015, which provided the capital and strategic backing to transition the brand from a design consultancy into a full-scale Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM). The brand's debut model, the Battista, was unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. Named in honor of the company's founder, the Battista is a pure-electric hyper GT that utilizes a powertrain developed in collaboration with Rimac Automobili. This partnership allowed Automobili Pininfarina to leverage cutting-edge EV technology while focusing on the unique 'Pura' design philosophy and Italian craftsmanship that defines the brand's identity. In recent years, the company has expanded its portfolio with ultra-limited projects such as the B95, a pure-electric open-top 'Barchetta,' and the PURA Vision design concept, which explores the future of luxury utility vehicles. The brand continues to operate with a dual presence: corporate and technical management in Munich, Germany, and hand-crafted production at the Pininfarina S.p.A. atelier in Cambiano, Italy. Today, Automobili Pininfarina remains a niche player in the hyper-luxury segment, focusing on the delivery of the 150-unit Battista production run. The company continues to invest in bespoke customization services, ensuring that no two vehicles leaving the Cambiano facility are identical, thereby upholding the legacy of Italian coachbuilding in the electric era.
