Overview

Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. is a manufacturer of ultra-luxury, high-performance hypercars based in Molsheim, France. The brand is globally recognized for pushing the boundaries of automotive engineering and speed, catering to an exclusive market with bespoke, handcrafted vehicles.

History

Founded in 1909 by Ettore Bugatti, the company initially gained fame for producing some of the world's most successful racing cars and opulent luxury vehicles. The Molsheim-based firm combined artistic design with technical innovation, resulting in masterpieces like the Type 35 and the Type 57 SC Atlantic.\n\nFollowing the decline of the original company after World War II, the brand rights were acquired by Romano Artioli in 1987, who established Bugatti Automobili S.p.A. in Italy. This era produced the EB110, but the venture ended in bankruptcy by 1995 due to global economic conditions.\n\nIn 1998, the Volkswagen Group purchased the Bugatti brand and revitalized it by building a state-of-the-art 'Atelier' in Molsheim. The launch of the Veyron 16.4 in 2005 marked a turning point, setting new world records for speed and engineering complexity with its quad-turbocharged W16 engine.\n\nThe Chiron followed in 2016, further solidifying the brand's dominance in the hypercar segment. In 2021, a strategic shift occurred when Bugatti Rimac was formed, a joint venture between Rimac Group (55%) and Porsche AG (45%), aiming to blend Bugatti's heritage with cutting-edge electrification and software expertise.\n\nToday, Bugatti continues to innovate with limited-run models like the Mistral and the track-focused Bolide, while transitioning toward its next generation of hybrid hypercars, starting with the V16-powered Tourbillon unveiled in 2024.
