Overview

Deepal is a Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) manufacturer owned by Changan Automobile, specializing in battery electric, extended-range, and hydrogen-powered vehicles. The brand positions itself as a leader in intelligent mobility, targeting the mainstream and premium segments with a focus on advanced digital platforms and high-efficiency powertrains.

History

Deepal was originally established in 2018 as Chongqing Changan New Energy Automobile Technology Co., Ltd., serving as the dedicated electric vehicle arm of Changan Automobile. In 2023, the company was rebranded as "Deepal" (Shenlan in China) to function as an independent brand with its own identity and strategic goals. This transition was part of Changan's "Shangri-La Plan," aimed at accelerating the group's shift toward electrification and digital intelligence. Since its rebranding, Deepal has experienced rapid growth, launching several key models including the SL03 sedan and the S7 (later S07) SUV. By mid-2024, the brand had already produced over 100,000 units of the S7 model alone, demonstrating significant manufacturing scale. The company has also expanded its global footprint, establishing a major production hub in Rayong, Thailand, to serve Southeast Asian and European markets. In late 2025, Deepal secured approximately $874 million in Series C funding to bolster its R&D and market expansion. Looking forward, the brand is set to undergo a strategic integration with Avatr, another Changan-backed premium brand, by the end of 2026. This move is intended to unify their R&D, supply chain, and manufacturing systems to better compete in the global EV market.
