Overview
Equus Automotive is an American boutique specialty automaker renowned for designing and hand-building retro-futuristic, high-end luxury muscle cars and sports vehicles. Based in Michigan, the company combines iconic 1960s and 1970s American muscle styling cues with modern bespoke engineering and contemporary performance powertrains. Their market position occupies an exclusive ultra-luxury niche, delivering low-volume, highly customizable vehicles tailored to automotive collectors.
History
Equus Automotive was founded in the late 2000s by entrepreneur Bassam Abdallah with the vision of reimagining iconic classic American muscle design through 21st-century engineering and luxury coachbuilding techniques. Operating out of the Detroit metropolitan area, the company spent several years in research, prototyping, and engineering development to build a brand-new vehicle from the ground up rather than relying simply on modified vintage donor chassis. In 2014, the company unveiled its flagship vehicle, the Equus Bass 770. Blending the fastback styling reminiscent of classic 1960s icons like the Ford Mustang fastback, Dodge Challenger, and Plymouth Barracuda, the Bass 770 incorporated a supercharged General Motors LS9 V8 engine, an aluminum and carbon fiber chassis, and modern electronic driving aids, garnering substantial international media attention. Building upon the acclaim of the Bass 770, Equus announced the Throwback in 2018, a high-performance sports car paying homage to classic Chevrolet Corvette generations, featuring extreme customization and available powertrain outputs reaching up to 1,000 horsepower. In subsequent years, Equus expanded its design and engineering horizons to include concept projects such as the fully electric e-4x4 concept, exploring electrification alongside classic American-inspired designs.
