Overview
Lanzante is a prestigious British automotive engineering firm specializing in the restoration, maintenance, and bespoke conversion of high-performance supercars for road and track use. They are globally renowned for their historic partnership with McLaren, including winning the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans, and for engineering road-legal versions of track-only models like the McLaren P1 GTR and Senna GTR.
History
Founded in 1979 by Paul Lanzante, the company initially focused on the restoration of classic cars before expanding into professional motorsport. Dean Lanzante now runs the business; majority ownership sits with Dean Lanzante Limited (Companies House PSC of Lanzante Limited: ownership of shares – 75% or more). The firm achieved its most significant milestone in 1995 when it operated the Kokusai Kaihatsu Racing McLaren F1 GTR that secured an overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This success solidified a deep technical relationship with McLaren that continues to define the company's identity today. Following the Le Mans victory, Lanzante transitioned into a specialist role, becoming a primary service center for the McLaren F1 and developing road-conversion kits for the F1 GTR. Under the leadership of Dean Lanzante, the company expanded its engineering capabilities to address the complexities of modern hybrid hypercars. This led to the creation of the P1 LM, a road-legal version of the P1 GTR that broke the Nürburgring lap record for road cars in 2017. In recent years, Lanzante has diversified its projects beyond McLaren, most notably with the 'TAG Turbo' project. This ambitious program involves the restoration of classic Porsche 930 units repowered by genuine 1.5-liter V6 TAG-Porsche Formula 1 engines sourced from the 1980s. These projects highlight the company's ability to blend historic racing hardware with modern road-going refinement. Today, Lanzante operates as a premier boutique manufacturer and engineering house, offering extremely limited production runs of bespoke vehicles. Their current portfolio includes the P1 Spider, various 'Longtail' conversions, and ongoing road-legal engineering for the Senna GTR and Solus GT, maintaining their position at the pinnacle of the automotive aftermarket and coachbuilding industry.
