Overview
Lynk & Co is a Swedish-Chinese automotive brand owned by Geely Auto Group and Volvo Car Group, focused on connected, high-tech vehicles for a younger urban demographic. The company distinguishes itself through a flexible membership-based subscription model and a heavy emphasis on digital integration and vehicle sharing.
History
Lynk & Co was officially launched in October 2016 in Berlin, Germany, as a collaborative venture between Geely and Volvo. The brand was established to fill the market gap between mass-market Chinese vehicles and premium European brands, utilizing the China Euro Vehicle Technology (CEVT) center in Gothenburg, Sweden, to develop shared platforms like the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA). The brand's first production model, the 01 SUV, was launched in China in late 2017 and saw immediate success, becoming one of the fastest-selling vehicles in the region. This was followed by the 02 crossover, the 03 sedan, and several other models including the 05, 06, and the flagship 09 SUV based on Volvo's SPA platform. The 03 sedan notably gained global recognition through its involvement in the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR), where it won multiple team titles. In 2020, Lynk & Co expanded into the European market with a unique business model that prioritized 'mobility as a service' over traditional ownership. Opening 'Clubs' instead of traditional dealerships in cities like Amsterdam, Berlin, and Gothenburg, the brand allowed customers to subscribe to the 01 model on a month-to-month basis with insurance and maintenance included. As of 2024, the company is aggressively pivoting toward a fully electrified future. Newer models like the 07 and 08 are built with advanced plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery-electric (BEV) powertrains, incorporating sophisticated software-defined vehicle architectures. The brand continues to leverage its shared heritage with Volvo and Geely to maintain high safety standards while pushing the boundaries of vehicle connectivity.
